Roger's Memorial Library - Southampton, NY
Located on a prestigious site in Southampton Long Island the new Rogers Memorial Library will replace an existing facility that the library has long ago outgrown. Faced with community opposition (a previous project was defeated in a referendum) the design of this 22,000 square foot building skillfully blends the needs of the library with the concerns of the community.

Taking advantage of the topography of the property, the building is cut into the side of a hill overlooking the Village. The reference department and meeting rooms are located on the lower level with access to a terrace for quiet reading, while the children’s department, AV, browsing room and fiction collection are located on the main level, which also contains the circulation desk and main entrance. Since a large portion of the building is located below grade construction and operating costs will be minimized.

A historic house sits on the property to the east of the new library and will be renovated and used for non-patron services including administrative offices and storage for the friends of the library’s collection.
