Taking advantage of the topography of the property, the building is cut into the side of a hill overlooking the Village. The reference department and meeting rooms are located on the lower level with access to a terrace for quiet reading, while the children’s department, AV, browsing room and fiction collection are located on the main level, which also contains the circulation desk and main entrance. Since a large portion of the building is located below grade construction and operating costs will be minimized. A historic house sits on the property to the east of the new library and will be renovated and used for non-patron services including administrative offices and storage for the friends of the library’s collection.
